Web 2.0 tools


These tools are internet tools that allow the user to go beyond just receiving information through the web. The user is expected to interact and to create content with others. 


Typically it’s when you 

  • post or comment on Facebook.

  •  Read & write on Wikipedia.

  • Upload & download 

  •  Watch & upload videos on YouTube

  •  Online booking of a hotel or a flight. 


Social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, blog,wiki, web applications ,google docs,slide share etc are web2. 0 tools. 

Web 2.0 Tools are online software programs that allow users to do a number of different things. As a teacher , we can teach curriculum content, store data, create/edit video, edit photos, collaborate and so much more. These programs are often free and are used by teachers, students. 


 HOT POTATOES

It is a web application for developing tests. Hot Potatoes is a program that enables users to create different types of puzzles and exercises. It was created by the Research and Development team at the University of Victoria. 


Features

Includes 5 applications - JQuiz, JCross, JMix, JMatch, JCloze. 

  1. Allows users to upload the Web pages to their servers

  2. Allows to alter the default source files and configuration file location. 

  3. Enables users to create interactive based teaching exercises. 

  4. User-friendly and very easy to use

  5. Multi-language support. 

  6. Freeware & It is free shareware

  • This program can be very useful for any subject teacher in creating different types of  interactive exercises including multiple-choice and short-answer questions, jumbled sentence items, crossword puzzles, and matching/ordering or gap-fill exercises.  

  • We can create exercises in almost any Indian regional language desired. 



EDU BLOG

An education blog or edublog is a blog (weblog) created for educational purposes.It is a free education community on the internet that allows teachers to create, manage, and control teacher and student blogs.

e - journals and e-books are academic web resources. Academic Web Resources are very useful for teaching learning. It plays a main role in the educational field. These web resources enhance the learning level of students.

  • E-book cannot be damaged, lost or stolen. 

  • Multiple accesses can be provided. 


Disadvantages 

  • Cost of hardware or e-book readers is high. 

  • Problems with printing a download. 

  • People may dislike reading text on computers.

  •  Lack of awareness of software/hardware.

  •  E-books might be hacked, copied or distributed without the author‟s or publisher‟s permission. 

  • A major worry of reading from an e-book reader could hurt the eyes.
